World Trade Center

The World Trade Center is often a complex involving buildings under construction with Lower Manhattan, New York City, United States, replacing a youthful complex involving seven buildings while using the same name about the same site. An original World Buy and sell Center highlighted landmark side by side towers, which usually opened on April 5, 1973, and have been destroyed within the September 11 assaults of 2001, along with 7 Planet Trade Core. The other buildings within the complex have been severely damaged by the collapse in the twin podiums, and their ruins have been eventually bull dozed. The site has been rebuilt along with six completely new skyscrapers, a funeral to people killed within the attacks, along with a transportation centre. One Planet Trade Center will be the lead building for the new intricate, reaching in excess of 100 reports at the completion. [4] Will probably be the tallest building in the states when total.

At enough time of their completion the actual "Twin Towers", the first 1 Planet Trade Core (the Upper Tower), from 1, 368 ft (417 m), along with 2 Planet Trade Core (the Southern region Tower), were the actual tallest buildings on this planet. The other buildings within the complex included the Marriott Planet Trade Core (3 WTC), 5 WTC, 5 WTC, 6 WTC, along with 7 WTC. These types of buildings have been built among 1975 along with 1985, with a construction price of $400 mil ($2, more than two hundred, 000, 000 with 2014 dollars). The actual complex was positioned in New York City's Fiscal District along with contained 13, 500, 000 sq . feet (1, 240, 000 m2) of work place.

The Twin Towers were the centerpieces of the World Trade Center complex. At 110 stories each, 1 WTC (North Tower) and 2 WTC (South Tower) provided nearly 10-million-square feet of office space for about 35,000 people and 430 companies. They were the tallest buildings in New York City, and for a brief period upon their completion, they were the tallest buildings in the world. They attracted roughly 70,000 tourists and commuters every day.

The North Tower rose 1,368 feet – 1,730 feet with a large antenna – and the South Tower stood 1,362-feet high. On a clear day, views extended 45 miles from the top of the towers in every direction – far enough to see all five New York City boroughs, New Jersey and Connecticut.

The towers were massive. Each weighed more than 250,000 tons, contained 99 elevators and had 21,800 windows. Each floor was an acre in size and there was enough concrete in the towers to build a sidewalk from New York City to Washington, D.C. The complex even had its own zip code: 10048.

The two towers were surrounded by five other buildings that comprised the WTC complex. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had a police desk in 5 WTC, while 3 WTC was a hotel and office buildings.

Attack on WTC:

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda-affiliated hijackers flew two Boeing 767 jets into the complex, one into each tower, in a coordinated act of terrorism. After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower (2) collapsed, followed a half-hour later by the North Tower (1). The attacks on the World Trade Center killed 2,753 people. Falling debris from the towers, combined with fires that the debris initiated in several surrounding buildings, led to the partial or complete collapse of all the other buildings in the complex and caused catastrophic damage to ten other large structures in the surrounding area (including the World Financial Center). The process of cleaning up and recovery at the World Trade Center site took eight months.

Over the following years, plans were created for the reconstruction of the World Trade Center. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC), established in November 2001 to oversee the rebuilding process, organized competitions to select a site plan and memorial design. Memory Foundations, designed by Daniel Libeskind, was selected as the master plan; however, substantial changes were made to the design.

The first new building at the site was the 7 World Trade Center, which opened in May 2006. The memorial section of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum opened on September 11, 2011 and the museum opened in May 2014. Construction of the One World Trade Center is nearing completion and it is expected to open in 2014; the 4 World Trade Center opened on November 13, 2013; the 3 World Trade Center is under construction and expected to open in 2016; as of November 2013, according to an agreement made with Silverstein Properties Inc., the 2 World Trade Center will not be built to its full height until sufficient leasing is established to make the building financially viable; and 5 World Trade Center will be developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, but, as of February 2014, a schedule was not confirmed
